The Sukhoi su25 Frogfoot remains the mainstay of Russian ground attack regiment (shturmovoy). Su25 goes parallel to the A10 Thunderbolt, and has been matured to be a sophisticated war plane with more than 10 years of combat experience.
The T-10 prototype flew for the first time in 22 February 1975. When put to production it flew more than 60000 combat sorties in Afghanistan alone. With the experience gained in Afghanistan a number of modifications were done to the aircraft. The SU25 was more heavily committed to the invasion of Chechnya, the need for an All weather day and night ground attack capable aircraft with an extended range and survivability led to the SU25T which was based on the SU25UB two seat variant. This led to more modifications and the SU25TM variant also known as the SU39 was finally unveiled. The TK and the TM are available for export.

If I remember correctly, Sri Lanka also evaluated the Su-25 at an earlier time and later opted for the MiG-27 instead.
It sure is an ugly bastard however...Looks more like a stranded fish rather than anything that can take to the air.

I think MIG29 is better solution than SU 25, by comparing the speed,
We should have more protective Air Craft than just slow one, Ex, Kafeer and F7G is more suitable because LTTE can not attack it because of its high speed, and accuracy,
So when we compare MIG29 and SU 25,
Speed and Accuracy is best in MIG 29, Its having newly build technologies,
Speed MIG-29 = 1'500/2'400 Km/h
SU 25 = 950 km/h (Max)
SO no droughts MIG29 is more suitable for Sri Lanka, Since Our Pilot can handle wel.
I begged and begged to buy these planes..but it seems the real motive against buying mi29 is a bigger plan...
frogfoot will certainly get the job done, but when the job is almost complete a pariah state would step in to help LTTE!
this is the problem...we face...mi29 would make them think twice!
this plan is the shit...flies better and faster than AT-10 (just like any russian aircraft) but the trick they all lack is offensive weapon capability. these days you can have a bi plane but give it a good radar and fire control package with a guided missiles even a mig 29 is no problem
frog foot good weapons platform: but it does not have sophisticated guided weapons that the americans have...
in US all the stuff is about accuracy
brilliant Ivy league school scientist s are developing out of this world technology which the russians cant ever think of developing.
I think next gen Kfir would be better...
